Laboratory Safety Engineer R&D (HSE) (Academic)

Basic Function:
• The Lab Safety Engineer R&D is responsible to ensure that the proper safety and environment procedures are being followed in Company’s research and development labs.
Worked Performed:
• Ensure all Company R&D labs are safe, clean, secure and well maintained at all times.
• Assist with the development, implementation and reporting of periodical compliance testing of R&D lab equipment, operating manuals and systems.
• Assist in comprehensive audit and inspection programs to ensure compliance with Company’s safety and environment policies, procedures and best practices.
• Inspect R&D labs, equipment and machinery to find and correct potential hazards, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
• Maintain up to date records for all inspections of Company R&D labs.
• Assist in writing R&D lab manuals, procedures, and safety instructions in coordination with the course instructor and/or Chair.
• Supervise R&D lab experimental work to ensure that they are being done safely.
• Ensure the proper maintenance and safety of the Company R&D labs and their equipment.
• Investigate R&D lab accidents and injuries and develop plans to prevent them.
• Ensure that HSE practices, policies and programs are implemented and aligned with best practices.
• Ensure that the proper safety and environment procedures are being followed in Company’s labs.
• Coordinate R&D lab waste disposal activities and procedures, and ensure that they are being performed in a safe and environmental friendly way.
• Coordinate with R&D lab engineers to develop safety and risk mitigation plans; resolve issues when required.
• Evaluate hazardous material handling procedures to make sure they comply with environmental and safety requirements.
• Provide support and training to new R&D lab instructors and technicians.
• Assist in the development of HSE training courses when required.
• Assist in the development of Company’s sustainability report.
• Remain up to date with HSE developments in the oil, gas and petrochemical industry.
• Actively follow and promote all Company policies and procedures.
• Perform other tasks and duties that may be from time to time required in order to meet the requirements of the role and the aims of the University.

Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or any other related field.
• A certification in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution is preferable (e.g. CSP, CIH, etc.).
• Normally four years of relevant work experience.
• Computer proficiency/skills.
• Fluent in English; Arabic is preferred.
