Sustainability and Social Responsibility Specialist (HSE) (Academic)

Basic Function:
• The Sustainability and Social Responsibility Specialist is responsible to assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of an Institution-wide sustainability and social responsibility program.
Worked Performed:
• Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining an Institution-wide energy conservation program.
• Remain abreast with the latest lab technologies and provide recommendations on new energy efficient equipment to be used in Company labs.
• Evaluate existing lab procedures and practices for safety and efficiency and make recommendations where appropriate.
• Ensure all Company labs are safe, clean, secure and well maintained at all times.
• Assist with the development, implementation and reporting of periodical compliance testing of lab equipment, operating manuals and systems.
• Assist in comprehensive audit and inspection programs to ensure compliance with Company’s safety and environment policies, procedures and best practices.
• Inspect labs, equipment and machinery to find and correct potential hazards, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
• Coordinate lab waste disposal activities and procedures, and ensure that they are being performed in a safe and environmental friendly way.
• Coordinate with lab engineers to develop safety and risk mitigation plans; resolve issues when required.
• Evaluate hazardous material handling procedures to make sure they comply with environmental and safety requirements.
• Develop and implement Company’s emergency guidelines and procedures in the work place.
• Ensure that the proper safety and environment procedures are being followed in Company’s labs.
• Assist in the development of HSE and sustainability training courses when required.
• Assist in the development of Company’s sustainability report.
• Remain up to date with HSE developments in the oil, gas and petrochemical industry.
• Actively follow and promote all Company policies and procedures.
• Perform other tasks and duties that may be from time to time required in order to meet the requirements of the role and the aims of the University.

Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or any other related field.
• A certification in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution is preferable (e.g. CSP, CIH, etc.).
• Normally four years of relevant work experience.
• Computer proficiency/skills.
• Fluent in English; Arabic is preferred.
