Laboratory Engineer (Electrical Engineering) (Academic)

Basic Function:
• The Laboratory Engineer provides scientific/technical and logistical support for science and engineering laboratories under the general supervision of the Faculty. The incumbent may be responsible for instructions of students, supervision of other staff members, assistant with research and/or curriculum developments, coordination of various activities and persons needed to offer multiple lab courses, assessment of student work, and coordination of departmental activities such as procurement and budget.
Worked Performed:
• Handle day to day operation and coordination of the laboratories under the supervision of faculty members.
• Assist in developing, implementing and instructing laboratory courses.
• Provide lab instruction for a range of courses at various levels to ensure instructional delivery complies with the quality and educational standards of the department/program.
• Maintain accurate student records, provide guidance, mentorship, and feedback to students and make suggestions for improvements to the curriculum.
• Assist in writing lab manuals, procedures, and safety instructions in coordination with the course instructor and/or Chair.
• Provide support to faculty in proctoring the quizzes, midterm exams and final exams related to the laboratory as needed.
• Assist senior and/or graduate students in Capstone design and research activities .
• Ensure adherence to established HSE procedures and policies.
• Provide technical support for experimental equipment including troubleshooting.
• Identify requirements and equipment specifications, prepare the budget and manage the procurement process of supplies and major equipment in the specific area.
• Maintain inventory and equipment of lab supplies according to safety measures.
• Contribute to the accreditation process within the department as appropriate.
• Perform other tasks and duties that may be from time to time required in order to meet the requirements of the role and the aims of the University.

Minimum Requirements:
• Master’s degree from an accredited university in a relevant discipline with 2 years experience or Bachelor’s degree with additional 6 years of experience in academic teaching laboratories.
• Knowledge of the theory associated with the area of specialty, in particular for the specific laboratory course or area of research.
• Knowledge of experimental procedures and preparation techniques, especially within the area of specialty.
• Familiarity with relevant laboratory equipment, operations and procedures, including the ability to set up, calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Experience with procurement processes and budget preparation.
• Knowledge of HSE policies and procedures in an educational setting.
• Skill in providing guidance and instruction to students in the use of laboratory procedures and in the safe use of laboratory equipment.
• Good communication skills, ability to demonstrate ability to logically outline and present thoughts, ideas, and specifications through oral communications and in writing.

• Fluent in English, Arabic is desirable.
