Telecom Technician

Basic Function:
• Carries out the skilled installation, maintenance and repair of telecommunication systems such as radio telecom, equipment and accessories including telecommunications cable network, PABX, Fax Machine, VHF/UHF radios and intercom system installed.
Worked Performed:
• Receiving Work Requests: Receives incoming work requests from Section Head / IT Engineer with comments on required work, examines faulty equipment and systems to determine work scope and requirement, obtains necessary tools and spare parts and proceeds to worksite to carry out the jobs.
• Diagnosis / Repair of Faulty Equipment: Carries out the skilled fault finding, diagnosis and defect repairs of telecommunication equipment, cable network, intercom systems and other telecommunication systems. Includes servicing equipment and carrying out necessary repairs as directed by IT Engineer/ Section Head. Provides suggestions when applicable and carries out highly complex repairs and replacement of component parts.
• Routine / Preventive Maintenance Checks: Carries out the routine, predictive and preventive maintenance checks on various telecommunication equipment and accessories. Includes operating and servicing sophisticated test equipment used in assigned work such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, multi-meters and analogue and digital meters. Ensures all equipment is in efficient operating condition and arranges for services and re-calibration as required.
• Installation / Maintenance & Commissioning Work: Assists in directing the installation or maintenance of equipment and systems carried out by Etisalat & IT personnel. Includes participating in the testing of equipment during commissioning.
• Records of Completed Jobs: Registers job out and fills in necessary records upon completion of job, detailing spare parts, materials and manpower utilized for subsequent repairs carried out and draws the attention of the IT Engineer / Section Head to the need for replenishment of spare parts and materials as required.
• Safety & Fire Rules: Complies with all safety and fire rules and regulations, and ensures that all personnel working in his area comply with safety regulations. Maintains worksites and repair shop in a clean and tidy condition.
• Repair / Programming Activities: Carries out and assists IT personnel on data cable ports, modem, fiber optics routes and related issues. Carries out Telephone repairs, programming of IP telephone on CISCO router and Switch and Hotlines on sites & SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy). Carries out minor modifications on cable routes and DP (Distribution Panel) Termination. Carries out minor programming of PABX (NEC 2400 IPX) on telephone user features access according to “Telecom Network Services Request” duly approved by Administration Services Manager.
• New Telephone / Fax Sets For New Offices: Provides new telephone set/Fax set for new office/ staff; replaces and repairs telephone set/fax sets according to “Telecom Network Services Request” duly approved by Administration Services Manager.
• Coordination / Administrative Work: Coordinates with Etisalat for installation of Direct line connections Updates & maintains database records of all related equipment and systems. Provides monthly PABX extensions bills (SMDR) for Sites Updates database of the above Billing System
• Miscellaneous: Carries out other similar or related duties as assigned, such as providing necessary details for the preparation of maintenance report, ensuring availability and proper use of specialized tools and materials, etc.
Minimum Requirements:
• Completion of Secondary School (12 Years) education followed by a 2-year Diploma in a related field.
• 5 years’ experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of telecommunication radio portables, single channel, mobile radio and telephone network.
• Good knowledge of English.
• Knowledge of Arabic is preferable.
