Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer

Basic Function:
• To execute, coordinate and support the activities related to the overhaul, revamp, up-rate, troubleshooting and studies related to rotating equipment in all plants within Company.
• To provide engineering to all project divisions at various stages of projects especially in tender technical evaluation and selection of rotating equipment for future projects
Background:
• The Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer reports to the Rotating Equipment Engineering Department Head (TSR) within TS Division.
• The availability and reliability of a gas plant depends heavily on the overall performance of rotating equipment. Therefore, the Rotating Equipment is the driving force in developing and shaping the shutdowns of all Company plants, by arranging, managing and ensuring the availability of capital insurance spares as per the five year shutdown plan.
• The importance generates not only from the fact that unscheduled shutdowns as a result of trips may cause considerable production losses, but it extends to the fact that failure of such equipment, may seriously affect the safety of the personnel and integrity of the gas plants. Furthermore, any upset to Company’s production as a result of unreliable machinery can affect upstream oil & gas operating companies and downstream Users.
• In order to meet such high demands and expectations of Company’s Shareholders and to allow other onshore oil and gas operating companies to maintain their normal level of production, maximum care in developing the maintenance practices and the overhaul requirements must be exercised by the job holder.
• As Company have been in operation for over 25 years, most machinery within the plants have already accumulated considerable running hours. A major challenge for the jobholder is to properly assess & review these aged equipment and provide proper action plan that mitigates any risk associated with ageing.
• Company is undertaking studies to control and reduce emissions from Gas Turbines exhausts, efficiency improvement and address obsolescence issues using new technologies. The jobholder has to develop scope of work, coordinate and review the proposals to get desired results, which will become basis of future strategies.
• Company is undertaking many of multi-billion expansion projects at various sites. The jobholder has to provide in time and quality support on the development of data sheets for various rotating equipment and review with proper inputs the technical tenders as per the standards and codes.
Worked Performed:
• To develop the annual and long-term budget for operating and capital requirements of the rotating equipment machinery covering all Company plants and to execute activities related to such budget ensuring that effective utilization and control is implemented.
• To develop and update M & I policy and DGS related to rotating equipment.
• To develop scope of work for repair / overhaul of rotating equipment and evaluation of the bids technically, commercially and delivery terms.
• To develop long term service agreements with main equipment suppliers & established non-OEM service providers for utilization of specialist services and refurbishment of capital insurance spares.
• To ensure that the quality of repairs and overhauls by various manufacturers and non-OEM service providers are in line with the agreed standards.
• To assist plants in identifying solutions to the recurring chronic problems which require in depth investigation & liaise with Original Equipment Manufacturers (if required) to ensure effective solutions.
• To coordinate studies related to feasibilities, life assessment, obsolescence, upgrades, future strategies and appraise equipment manufacturers recommendation related to new technologies aiming to improve reliability, availability and performance of the rotating equipment with optimised operating cost.
• To provide technical advice on the rotating equipment to various operating, engineering, projects and training departments / divisions.
• To prepare data sheets / specifications, finalize sizing, layout, estimate capacity and power requirement for rotating equipment & systems involving rotating equipment,
• To prepare Request For Quotations (RFQs) and Purchase Requisitions, evaluate technical offers from bidders, technical query sheets and review vendor documents and attend clarification meetings in co-ordination with project divisions on issues related to rotating equipment
• To review capital spares inventory for rotating equipment ensuring that optimum levels are maintained and to order replacement as per 5-year business plan.
• To support planning engineer with preparation of Long Term Maintenance of Rotating equipment, effective history & record keeping of the rotating equipment and to utilise such records to plan proper replacement of aged parts.
• Prepare contract acquisition plan for subsequent years and five year business plan for capital purchase of the rotating equipment items
• To provide support to plant & project divisions in execution of various specialized upgrade/revamp projects.
Main Challenges:
• Most rotating machinery within Company have already accumulated considerable running hours, replacement of aged parts/components require careful evaluation in order to ensure that Replacement at optimum life limits with no risk to the operating plants.
• A major challenge for the jobholder is to ensure consistent quality throughout the refurbishment work and replacement orders by performing thorough check on the quality procedures of the OEM / other service providers and inspections.
• Studies influencing the future of company operation require thorough and critical review.
• Ensure execution strategies, design & specifications reflect minimum overall cost while being consistent with project requirements.
• Maintain a consistent approach in preparation of bid documents and evaluation of projects technical tenders to ensure consistency in all the new projects.
Minimum Requirements:
• In-Depth working knowledge in engineering standards, specifications, codes of practices and procedures Excellent technical writing skills in creating new Company Corporate technical Standards, Policies, Procedures, DGS, Guidelines, Recommended Practice and other technical documents.
• In-depth knowledge on the Rotating Equipment discipline to be Subject Matter Expert (SME).
• Thorough familiarity in international design codes and standards, procurement, construction, Pre-Commissioning/commissioning and maintenance activities of Rotating Equipment facilities in Oil & Gas industry.
• Good working experience in providing technical advice and guidance to incorporate company designated engineering standards and specifications relevant to Rotating Equipment discipline.
• Good knowledge of Rotating Equipment design works and managing the preparation of detailed design drawings, material specifications and procurement documents. Knowledge of international design engineering practices related to Rotating Equipment by reputed Oil and Gas companies and engineering companies.
• Knowledge of codes and standards such as ASME, ASTM, API, TEMA, NACE, EN, BS, NFPA, etc. related to Rotating equipment and hand-over specification packages for rotating equipment.
• Experience with Gas Turbines, Centrifugal Compressors, Steam Turbines, Centrifugal Pumps, Gear Boxes and Turbo-expanders to perform above mentioned key accountabilities is essential.
• Good knowledge about rotating equipment design, engineering, construction, installation, site acceptance testing, post installation review, maintenance and operation in oil and gas industry.
• Familiarity of pumps, compressors and gas turbines including trouble shooting.
• Experience in rotating equipment condition monitoring, thermodynamic performance data analysis.
• Familiarity of the technical requirements for Pre-FEED/ FEED/ EPC phases of projects.
• Minimum 5 years experience in oil & gas.
