Laboratory Engineer (Petroleum Geoscience) (Academic)

Department Description:
• The Company was created in 2001 with the goal of establishing itself as a world-class university and research center in engineering and applied sciences in areas of significance to the oil, gas and the broader energy industries. The Company’s sponsors and affiliates include Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and several major international oil companies. The Petroleum Geosciences department currently has 16faculty, and utilizes modern instructional laboratories and classroom facilities. A major research center is currently under construction and will be operational in late 2015.
Brief Posting Description:
• The successful candidate will work in the Rock Physics Lab within the Company Research Centre.
Detailed Description:
• The successful candidate should be proficient in experimental methods, procedures, techniques and equipments used to geophysical characterization of rocks. These include but they are not limited to lab measurements in rocks of acoustic velocities, electromagnetic properties, natural radioactivity, porosity and permeability, NMR, and CT scan images acquisition. The candidate will be expected to conduct general day-to-day laboratory duties including operation and support of ultrasonic, EM, porosimeter, permeameter, resistivity, and core GR and CT- scanner equipments. In addition to this, the successful candidate should understand and keep current with all aspects of laboratory health, safety and new and emerging rock physics laboratory techniques.
Minimum Requirements:
• Candidates with a M.Sc. degree in geophysics, geology, physics or closely related science is preferred, but outstanding, experienced candidates with a B.Sc. in these subjects or related fields.
• At least 4 years of experience will also be considered.
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English are essential.
• The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual, who is a team player and possesses strong knowledge in rock physical laboratory techniques, and computer and organizational skills.
• Experience with laboratory measurements of acoustic properties, porosity, and permeability in rocks is essential.
